On March 17, President Trump’s own counterterrorism chief, Joe Kent — a Trump appointee confirmed by the Senate only last year — resigned abruptly in protest over the campaign. In his resignation letter, Kent said that he could not in good conscience support the ongoing war, arguing that Iran posed no imminent threat to the United States.
